SCOTOPIA
Scotopia is an annual new works festival produced by MoB Theatre that provides both fresh voices and seasoned artists a platform for bold, risk-taking theatre, fostering creative exchange across all levels of experience. “Scotopia” is defined as “the ability to see in dim light or darkness.” MoB Theatre takes this definition as a point of departure to illuminate stories that challenge perceptions, invert societal norms, and shed light on modern social issues. Seeking engagement across diverse genres and forms, Scotopia creates an eclectic, and thought-provoking series of events.
Scotopia 2026 “Water, water, everywhere, but not a drop to drink…”
This year, Scotopia’s lineup will include Scotopia Shorts, a collection of 10-minute plays, a Workshop series for not just MoB originals, but a featured full-length, as well as a collection of scenes from NC playwrights. Finally, the festival features several solo performances by visiting and local performers. This year’s marketing nods to Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s 1798 poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, tapping into a recurring image of water everywhere and still not enough. An ocean of abundance. A culture still thirsty.
